The Division of Child Protective Services at Stroger Hospital of Cook County announces the availability of a two-year fellowship program in child abuse medicine for board eligible/board certified pediatricians. Stroger Hospital is an urban public teaching hospital with a level one trauma center and accredited burn ICU serving the diverse population of the City of Chicago. The Division of Child Protective Services is multi-disciplinary and provides comprehensive evaluations and follow-up care to approximately 1,500 children each year at the hospital, as well as in the medical clinic at the Chicago Children’s Advocacy Center where children are evaluated for sexual abuse. The fellowship program was developed in 2002 and is designed to provide comprehensive clinical and academic training in all areas of child abuse medicine including physical abuse, sexual abuse, neglect and dependency.  In addition, the fellow will learn to provide effective court testimony, will have the opportunity to participate in the Cook County Child Death Review Team, will gain experience teaching child abuse related topics to medical and non-medical providers as well as by supervising residents and medical students rotating with the division, and will learn to advocate for the improved care and treatment of abused/neglected children.  Opportunities for independent research are available.
