The Children's Hospital at Hackensack University Medical Center

Two year fellowship available for board certified or board eligible pediatricians who wish to be trained in the field of Child Abuse and Neglect.  This program provides direct exposure to physical abuse, sexual abuse, abusive head trauma, Munchausen Syndrome by Proxy, child death review, and medical neglect on both an inpatient and outpatient basis for six northern counties in NJ.  Fellows will be apart of a statewide multidisciplinary team process and have the opportunity to testify in court, lecture to and train la enforcement and the legal community, and participate in statewide organizations and committees like the Governor's Task Force on Child Abuse and Neglect.  Fellows will learn the court skills needed to present as effective experts witnesses, the examination and colposcopy skills to perform sexual abuse examinations,  and the administrative skills needed to direct a child abuse program.  Because the program is housed in a children's hospital and because there is a large therapy component, fellows will have the opportunity to interact with a number of specialties that include psychology, pediatric emergency medicine, child psychiatry, neurosurgery, genetics, toxicology, medical examiners, child development, etc. Completion of a research project is expected.
