The Division of Child Abuse, Department of Pediatrics, Joe R. & Teresa Lozano Long School of Medicine at UT Health San Antonio is recruiting for an academic faculty position as Assistant or Associate Professor/Clinical to fill a full-time position. Academic rank will be determined based on qualifications and experience. We are seeking recent graduates and/or experienced physicians who are BC/BE in Child Abuse Pediatrics to work alongside our multidisciplinary team of three child abuse pediatricians and a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner. BC/BE Child Abuse Pediatrician | Pittsburgh, PA

The Division of Child Advocacy at University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh is seeking a BC/BE Child Abuse Pediatrician to join the Child Advocacy team. Children’s Advocacy Center Pediatrician | San Jose, CA

County of Santa Clara Health System (CSCHS), a large public healthcare system in Silicon Valley, is seeking a full-time BE/BC pediatrician, with fellowship training in child abuse pediatrics, with an interest in advocacy for vulnerable children and youth to join the staff of the new Medical Clinic at the Children’s Advocacy Center of Santa Clara County. 

About the Position:
The responsibilities of the Children’s Advocacy Center (CAC) Pediatrician include clinical, administrative, and systems’ development roles.

A. Clinical Responsibilities:

  1. Forensic evaluations for child sexual abuse, child physical abuse and neglect at the Medical Clinic at the Children’s Advocacy Center and at Santa Clara Valley Medical Center (SCVMC). Clinical hours and call schedule to be determined.
  2. Consultation in child physical abuse and neglect, when requested by the Department of Family and Children’s Services (DFCS/CPS), Law Enforcement, the District Attorney’s Office, and clinical providers within SCVHHS, inpatient and outpatient, and affiliated external clinics.
  3. Collaboration with the Pediatric Diagnostic Center, which will open doors in 2022, co-located with the CAC. The candidate will have potential opportunities to participate in developmental assessments in collaboration with multidisciplinary teams.           
  4. Supervision of CAC advanced practice providers (physician’s assistants and nurse practitioners).

B. Administrative Responsibilities: 

  1. Provide ongoing education and develop educational materials for staff pediatricians, residents, and physicians regarding signs and symptoms of abuse and neglect.
  2. Provide annual training for the pediatric and emergency departments regarding mandatory reporting requirements and recognition of signs and symptoms of child abuse.
  3. Support SCVMC’s Child Abuse Prevention Committee, an internal to SCVMC cross-disciplinary team that evaluates quality of abuse evaluations across SCVHHS, and supports educational efforts
  4. Collaborate with our county and community partners to develop a centralized trauma-informed resource for children who have survived child abuse and neglect. These partners include Behavioral Health, Dept. of Family & Children Services (DFCS), Kinship and Foster Parent Association (KAFTA), Juvenile Court, Probation, District Attorney’s Office, County Superintendent of Schools, and Santa Clara County First 5.
  5.  Represent SCVMC on county-wide organizations who advocate for children’s health and safety.

  7. Maintain professionalism and expertise in child abuse issues, general pediatric issues, and medical evaluation standards by receiving related continuing education and staying abreast of current research
  8. Work collaboratively in a team environment with a spirit of cooperation. Foster positive relationships with community partners and team members, promoting a collaborative approach to child welfare
  9. Provide after-hours on-call phone consultation on a rotating schedule.
  10. Track and report on program related activities as required by the CAC and it’s funders

Essential Requirements:

  1. Licensed to practice medicine in Oregon, with pediatric or family medicine experience.
  2. Preferably trained in pediatric exams and forensic evidence collection.
  3. Familiarity with HIPAA standards and ethical patient care guidelines.
  4. Excellent communication skills, capable of working with diverse populations.
  5. Competency in trauma-informed care

is currently seeking to fill the position of Division Chief.

The Chadwick Center at RCHSD is one of the largest hospital-based child advocacy and trauma treatment centers in the nation, with a staff of 75 professionals (medicine, social work, psychology, psychiatry, child development, nursing, education, technology). The Chadwick Center provides child
abuse medical services for San Diego, Imperial, and southern Riverside counties, a region with over 3 million people. Child abuse pediatricians oversee a 24/7 response to acute child/adolescent sexual assault and provide continual telephone availability to the community to triage and manage medical intervention for maltreatment issues.

The Division Chief will report to the Chair of the Department and work closely with the other Division Chiefs and Vice Chairs in the Department of Pediatrics. The Division Chief will oversee the clinical, research, and educational activities of the Division, lead recruiting efforts, and ensure career mentoring for all faculty and fellows in the Division. The Division Chief also will be expected to support the mission of delivering high-quality care, teaching, and scholarly activities, while promoting an environment that supports diversity, equity, and inclusivity among faculty, students, and staff.

Child Protection Team Physician | Miami, FL

The University of Miami Health System is initiating a search for a Child Protection Team Physician.

The State of Florida, Department of Health (DOH), contracts with the University of Miami, Department of Pediatrics to provide for a coordinated interdisciplinary team approach for the evaluation, diagnosis and treatment of child maltreatment. The Child Protection Team is a Florida-statutory mandated program to assist the Department of Children and Families (DCF) during the investigation of suspected child maltreatment. The CPT is available on a 24-hour basis and provides a unique array of services for over 1,500 children (birth to eighteen) a year in Miami-Dade and Monroe Counties.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Provide forensic medical examinations/consultations and create medical reports for children alleged to have been maltreated (abused and/or neglected):
  • Perform complete physical examinations on referred children,
  • Triage cases with CPT case coordinator and provide initial assessment of cases referred to the Team by DCF, law enforcement or medical providers,
  • Review the interviews of children and their caregivers prior to examination,
  • Obtain or review the current medical status and the past medical history of the children being examined,
  • Order and arrange for indicated imaging and laboratory studies, if necessary,
  • Provide follow-up on hospitalized cases and monitor post-discharge follow-up,
  • Perform sexual abuse examinations, including photographic documentation, as needed.
  • Must be available for 24-hour on-call rotation, including weekends and holidays, for triage and emergent medical examinations in the CPT office or in hospitals.
  • Determine need for orders and obtain appropriate diagnostic studies (lab tests, procedures, etc.),
  • Assist psychologist in identifying behavioral problems and diagnoses.
  • Arrange for outpatient studies or consults as indicated or at the request of the Medical Director.
  • Be available to review Hotline reports to determine which cases are mandatory referrals to CPT.
  • Remain current on child maltreatment literature and the special medical and psychological needs of foster children, including Florida statutes and DCF/DOH rules and regulations.

Atrium Health Levine Children’s is seeking a board-certified Pediatrician to join the Division of Academic General Pediatrics, part of Children’s Services which includes Levine Children’s Hospital (LCH). Ranked as one of the top Children’s Hospitals by U.S. News and World Report in eight specialties for 2022-2023, LCH is the most comprehensive children’s hospital between Atlanta and Washington, DC. This physician will provide care for the rapidly growing community in Charlotte, NC, at our Myers Park Pediatrics location and with our Child Protection Team. All our pediatricians are board-certified and offer complete pediatric medicine for children from newborn to 18 years old.

  • Myers Park Pediatrics: the primary ambulatory teaching site for LCH pediatric residents and for students at the Charlotte campus of Wake Forest University School of Medicine. In addition, the practice is the largest safety net pediatric practice in Mecklenburg County. There are 7 faculty physicians and 5 advanced practitioners in the practice.
  • Child Protection Team: 3 full-time Child Abuse pediatricians and 3 advanced practitioners. The program provides ambulatory services at 4 regional Child Advocacy Centers and inpatient consult services at LCH.

Position Details:

  • Office Hours: Monday – Friday
  • 60% with Myers Park Pediatrics (Outpatient) and 40% with Child Protection Team (Inpatient and Outpatient)
  • Average Daily Patient Volume: Myers Park Pediatrics (8-12 per shift) and Child Protection Team (2-3 per shift)

Candidate Qualifications:

  • Two or more years of experience in general academic pediatrics in an ambulatory setting required.
  • Board Certification in General Pediatrics required and Board Certification or Board Eligible in Child Protection preferred; if not Board Certified or Board Eligible in Child Protection, then 5 years of Child Protection experience required; eligible for North Carolina Licensure also required.

Pediatric Medical Director | Falls Church, VA

General Pediatrics/Child Abuse Pediatrician | Richmond, VA

The Division of General Pediatrics at the Children’s Hospital of Richmond at VCU is seeking a full-time Child Abuse Pediatrician to join our Child Protection Team (CPT). The CPT at the Children’s Hospital of Richmond (CHoR) at Virginia Commonwealth University participates in inpatient and outpatient clinical care, teaching medical students, residents, and statewide community partners, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams in Central Virginia, providing leadership on committees and legislative advocacy at a state government level, and pursuing scholarly research with multiple departments at the University including surgery and radiology. The CPT is part of a nationally accredited Child Advocacy Center with Greater Richmond Stop Child Abuse Now (SCAN) which is located within a few miles from CHoR and serves multiple jurisdictions in Central Virginia.

The CPT was founded in 1992 and is comprised of a child abuse pediatrician and three pediatric nurse practitioners. All pediatric interns participate in a four-week rotation with the team and fourth-year medical students participate in a one-month elective with the team. The team provides care for 850 children per year between inpatient and outpatient consults and external reviews.

The CPT provides coverage to the CHoR pediatric emergency department 24/7 for acute sexual assaults to perform evidence recovery in person and provides telephone consultation and evaluation recommendations for suspected abuse cases in our emergency department and community healthcare settings. Our inpatient consult population includes the emergency department, the pediatric intensive care unit, newborn nursery, and Evans-Haynes Burn Unit. Our outpatient clinic includes acute evaluations, follow up exams, and foster care placement evaluations.

Other responsibilities for this position include research/quality improvement activities, provision of expert testimony in criminal and civil cases, and the coordination of ongoing statewide educational programs for professionals on the recognition and evaluation of child abuse and neglect in the clinical and nonclinical setting.

Child Abuse Pediatrician | Birmingham, AL

The University of Alabama at Birmingham Department of Pediatrics is seeking to hire a physician for the Child Abuse Pediatrics Division (CAP). This is a newly approved clinical faculty position providing direct patient care, as well as responsibility for teaching. Additionally there are opportunities for clinical research based on the interest of the faculty member. The full-time academic position is open to a physician who is trained in child abuse or in general pediatrics with a strong interest in child abuse.

The Department of Pediatrics has a strong record of academic achievement and provides education to pediatric residents, medical students, and numerous subspecialty fellows via electives, lectures, and other clinical experience. The UAB Child Abuse Pediatrics Division has an active clinical & academic program providing medical consultative services for more than half of the state. The division provides inpatient and outpatient consultations at the Children’s of Alabama, a private, non-profit children’s hospital (332 beds) which is a Level 1 Trauma Center and is the only free-standing children’s hospital in the state with a complete complement of subspecialty services. The new faculty member will join an established team consisting of the following: 1 full-time MD, 1 full-time NP, 2 part-time MDs, and 1 part-time NP. In addition, there is a large full service pediatric SANE program providing 24/7/365 service for pediatric assault victims in the ED. Outpatient consultations are seen in the CHIPS Center (Children’s Hospital Intervention & Prevention Services) immediately adjacent to the hospital. The CHIPS Center is part of the CAP Division and includes 2 social work case managers, a PSANE RN, and several counselors providing counseling and community child abuse preventative services in addition to the medical services. The CHIPS Center is the primary medical resource for 18 of the 35 child advocacy centers in Alabama.

The UPMC CAC is one of the first nationally accredited child advocacy centers in Pennsylvania. Opened in 1994, the center has expanded to include a main office and two satellite offices. Job Summary:

This individual will act as medical director of the practice and provide oversight of and professional development to the Certified Registered Nurse Practitioners. They will develop protocols to standardize practice and assist the director of operations in ensuring all medical requirements are met for national accreditation through the National Children’s Alliance. They will work with the director of operations to expand services and grow the practice. The child abuse pediatrician will collaborate with the multi-disciplinary investigative team by attending case review and testifying in court.
