Physicians who have completed or are enrolled in a fellowship training program with significant child abuse content, or, physicians who have demonstrated career commitment to child abuse medicine and potential for significant leadership in the child abuse field, are eligible for admission to the Society as Helfer Society Scholars.  This category is to acknowledge and honor commitment to training in child abuse pediatrics. Helfer Scholar status may last for up to 5 years at the discretion of the Membership Committee.  At the discretion of the Membership Committee, a renewal for one additional 5-year period may be made for a Scholar wishing renewal as a Scholar.  Afterwards, the Scholar must apply for full Helfer Society Membership or will be dropped from the Helfer Society roster.  Membership as a Scholar does not automatically lead to full membership. Scholars have no voting privileges.  They are however assessed the same membership dues of $100/year as full members.  Scholars will be charged the same fee as members if they choose to attend the annual Helfer Society meeting.

Scholar applications for the Ray Helfer Society can be submitted at any time.  Applications can be submitted anytime as they are reviewed throughout the year.  A current Ray Helfer Society member must request scholar status by submitting a scholar application form .  The Membership Committee will convene during the annual Ray Helfer Society meeting and review the status of each Helfer Scholar.  Renewal or termination of scholar status will be determined yearly during or shortly after this meeting.  The sponsor and the applicant will be notified of the applicant’s acceptance or rejection as a Scholar and if accepted, the Scholar will be added to the Helfer mailing list and to the Helfer listserve.
