Children’s Memorial Hospital Chicago Children’s Memorial Hospital and Northwestern University Medical School announce the availability of a fellowship in Child Maltreatment Medicine. The fellowship is a two year academic appointment with an option of a third year and provides focused training in all areas of child abuse and neglect. The Child Maltreatment Fellow will work in conjunction with our multidisciplinary Protective Services Team, comprised of our attending physicians, radiologists, social workers, a developmental and behavioral psychologist, a child protective services representatives and other medical specialists and professionals involved in the evaluation of a particular child. The Team provides a comprehensive assessment and facilitates appropriate interventions for child victims of abuse and neglect who present to the Hospital. The large volume of patients treated at Children’s Memorial Hospital truly provides an optimal learning experience for our fellows. In addition to patient care, the Fellow will learn to provide effective court testimony, will assist in educating medical personnel, and will learn how to advocate for policy that will improve care and treatment of maltreated children. Independent research will be encouraged and mentored. Upon completion of the fellowship, the physician will be a medical expert who is knowledgeable and competent in all areas of child abuse and neglect. Along with the experiences at Children’s Memorial Hospital, interested fellows may select to concurrently pursue a Masters in Public Health at Northwestern University. A generous tuition support program will be provided for accepted candidates. The fellowship is directed at training physicians who will pursue careers in academic settings.
