Texas Children's Hospital/Baylor College of Medicine

The Department of Pediatrics at Baylor College of Medicine and Texas Children’s Hospital offers a 3 year fellowship in Child Abuse Pediatrics. The program is accredited by ACGME and will allow the candidate to sit for the Child Abuse Pediatrics board examination.

One fellowship position is open for the upcoming academic year and the program accepts applications July through October 15.

Baylor College of Medicine CAP fellows will be an integral part of the Section of Public Health Pediatrics– a newly established section within the Pediatric department. This new section’s mission is to improve the health and well-being, as well as the safety and protection, of the children in our community. The SPHP houses the Center for Adversity, Resilience, and Education, which will leverage novel and exciting relationships with the University of Texas School of Public Health, Rice University, and Harris County to further this aim.

To foster deeper understanding of the many implications of childhood maltreatment and adversity to the pediatric population, a Master’s degree will be strongly encouraged in the course of training, and will be facilitated by the program.

The patient population at our clinical sites – including Texas Children’s Hospital, The Children’s Assessment Center, and the Institute of Forensic Sciences - is large and varied, and trainees will have robust exposure to all areas of clinical assessment of child maltreatment: physical abuse, sexual abuse, neglect and medical child abuse. Fellows will have a deep reservoir of clinical experience by the time of their graduation.

This child abuse pediatrics fellowship focuses not only on excellence in clinical care, but also methodologically rigorous research and forward-thinking community engagement and advocacy in a unique arrangement within the Texas Medical Center.
