The Department of Pediatrics at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, Missouri and St. Louis Children’s Hospital announces the availability of  three year Child Abuse Pediatrics fellowship training program in the assessment and care of children suspected of being victims of maltreatment.   The program offers a fellow comprehensive training and experience in clinical assessment, scholarly activity and child advocacy skills.  Our hospital-based Child Protection Program has one full time child protection social worker, one part time social worker, one full time pediatric nurse practitioner, one part time nurse practitioner, one pediatrician serving as medical director of the program and a part time child abuse pediatrics physician.  Our facility provides custom designed interview and examination rooms with equipment for audio and video documentation of interviews as well as examinations.  First year pediatric residents and fourth year medical students participate in a Child Protection Program elective and rotation allowing the child protection fellow opportunities for one on one teaching and didactic presentations. The fellow is provided opportunities to interact and spend elective time with pediatric sub specialists and governmental agencies (judicial, police, child protection agency, child fatality review panel) involved in the multidisciplinary response to child maltreatment.  Included in the fellowship program are  graduate course encompassing topics such as research design, biostatistics and epidemiology.
